City made only one change from last couple of weeks with Thomas Reilly deemed to be injured and replaced by Keiran Stewart.
Gala were first to threaten but Dean McColm blazed high over when well placed. City replied through Shane Sutherland but his effort went narrowly past.
But City were not to be denied and went ahead in 14 minutes. It was the in-form Shane Sutherland who supplied the finishing touch. The move started with Keiran Stewart who fed Brian Cameron who, in turn provided the pass for Shane to stroke it home from the edge of the box.
City went two up in 21 minutes through an own goal from Gary Miller and just two minutes later Brian Cameron hit the Gala crossbar with a superb shot.
Shane went close with a shot in 25 minutes but just five minutes later he played in Chris McLeish who fired a low shot past the Gala keeper to make it 3-0 after just half an hour. Just on half time Chris Dodd hit the post with an effort, but at half time it was still 3-0 to the City.
City hit the ground running, early in the second half and 2 minutes in made it 4-0 with a goal laid on by Shane and finished with a shot from Brian Cameron. Dean McColm went close for Gala a few minutes later but his effort went just past the post. Shane again went close with a shot just past the post. Daniel Moore came on after 63 minutes for Jamie Reid and 5 minutes later Gunny came on for an injured Chris McLeish. Shane Sutherland then hit the crossbar with a header.
In 74 minutes City committed their final substitute with Kyle McLeod replacing Shane Sutherland. Billy Miller went extremely close for Gala when his 40 yard effort rebounded off the City crossbar. That was very near to the end of the game and the City simply played out time in the last couple of minutes.
