Craig Thomson admits he has been surprised by the Elgin squad since joining the club. The midfielder signed on loan from St Johnsone at the start of December and has enjoyed the experience so far.
He said: “Given our league position I’ve been really surprised with the quality of the squad. There is a good mix of experience and youth. If we continue our good form I feel there is no reason why we can’t climb up the league.”
“I have really enjoyed my time at Elgin so far. Everyone has been very welcoming which has helped me settle into the team straight away.”
The 19 year-olds loan deal was recently extended until the end of the season and he is hoping to use the experience to help himself improve as a player.
“My main strength is using my speed to take on players in wide areas. I also have good work rate defensively, play well as part of a team and have good composure on the ball. While I am here I aim to improve as much as I can as a player. Hopefully I can get a few a goals and help the team push up the league.”
Looking back on Saturday’s game against Queens Park, Thomson feels City were unlucky not to take all three points. Elgin took the lead within three minutes but Gus MacPherson’s side drew level from the penalty spot on the 15th minute.
He said: “I felt that it was a good point to get away to a good Queens Park side. The boys all worked really hard and with the chances that we created I would say that we were unlucky not to edge the game.”
